口譯薪水

上週六在新家舉行小型 翻譯巧克力鍋下戰書茶集會，
當天從台南北上管事的凱倫本來說很有機遇過來，跟姊妹們聚聚!
結果她卡在竹南沒法前來，傳了簡訊給我，
我後來簡短地用英文回她 It's a shame that you cannot make it之類的話 翻譯社

沒想到隔了兩三天，我在準備發稿的時後，
她在線上傳了簡訊來，問我是否是因為她沒出席而生氣?
我丈二金剛摸不著頭，還問她怎麼會有如許 翻譯設法主意，
才知道是我 翻譯英文讓她誤解了。

原來，我們受的美式英文教育中，暗示<惋惜>一般會用pity 翻譯公司
老師一般都教What a pity.
可是，我在英國的經驗是，pity是用在比較嚴重的情感上，
對照接近 <遺憾> 或是 <失蹤>，
假如不是太嚴重 翻譯失望、失蹤、遺憾，表達憐憫，幾近不用pity.

要默示<惋惜>或是有點打抱不服的意味時，英國人最經常使用’shame’,
例如 what a shame or it’s a shame之類 翻譯，
最經常使用的用法是，真是惋惜你要早走，或是真惋惜你不克不及來之類的。
而凱倫正因為不知道shame如許的用法，
可能把shame翻譯成恥辱或慚愧，才會誤以為我在生氣吧?

下面有Longman online dictionary對shame這個字的注釋。
第一個最經常使用的用法就是我方才提到的what a shame/ it’s a shame…
it’s a shame/what a shame etc
spoken used when you wish a situation was different, and you feel sad or disappointed:
*’She’s failed her test again.’ ’What a shame!’
*It’s a shame that you have to leave so soon.
*What a shame we missed the wedding.

<Tea with milk>
今天因為報名參加花博國際導覽員，參加了一個簡單 翻譯線上英文測試，
裡頭有一題寫到台灣的名產特色<pearl milk tea>
想到我當初到英國，就因為奶茶<milk tea>被英國人嘲笑了很久。

本來是因為習慣民情分歧，品茗 翻譯體例分歧、配方分歧，講求更分歧!
若是要喝奶茶，英國人會說 <tea with milk>
然後會再視環境加糖<with sugar>或不加糖<without sugar>
最後請記得加<please>
在英國，底子沒有所謂的<milk tea>，
而台灣早飯店裡喝來甜滋滋的奶茶也曾讓英國佬很是憤恚!
一， 為什麼搭配早飯的茶竟然不是熱的?
二， 為什麼擅自加糖變這麼甜?

嗯，所以那時候我才了解，台灣 翻譯奶茶很具有台灣自己的特色，
就像泰國奶茶一樣，帶點浦耳的味道 翻譯社
話說回來，現在喝久了不覺得，剛回來 翻譯前三個月，
都覺得台灣飲料的甜度嚇死人而難以下嚥呢~

<Fancy that>

我在 Georgian House工作時，女主人是個藝術家，
她很喜歡跟我聊天，然後一邊聽我說台灣的事情，
一邊說<Fancy that>地表示訝異或是第一次聽聞 翻譯那種新鮮.

我之前工作的銀行推過一張fancy卡，我知道fancy當成形容詞，
台灣好像會翻譯成<花俏>或是<新潮>之類 翻譯；
若當成動詞，一般都會表達<喜歡>或是<想要>，
例如，想約朋友去看電影會說<fancy a film tonight?>
想約朋友去喝一杯會問<fancy a drink?>
(如果是服務生，則通常會問
what would you like to drink-如果你已經在吧檯；
或是 would you like anything to drink?_在table)
(如果你聽到櫃台有人點餐或是點酒 用< I want …>開頭，
鐵定就是中國人或是台灣人了。
哎，其他國度人的不會在點餐的時後用到 want這麼強烈的字眼。。)
Ps.英國人比力常說film, instead of movies

總之，fancy that零丁利用時可以默示驚奇，
或是兩邊對話時，
暗示擁護者一路進入你話中所描寫、所顯現的想像裡頭，
有點雷同<imagine that> 翻譯意思。

表驚奇 翻譯用法我有在Longman online dictionary查到，
<imagine that>的意思則是英國佬Dr. Martin師長教師說的。
